‘Tis the season…for Ma’s chocolate pretzels. Every year, my parents have a huge Christmas party. This is the first time that I’ve been home to attend since 2011, so I’m pretty pumped for all the old food and drink that I used to indulge in. Specifically, I was pumped to help my mom make these. They are probably the most basic, easily popped sweet of the whole yuletide season, but I just can’t get enough of them (until I feel ill and get sick). I know she didn’t technically “invent” them- to be honest, I’m not sure who did- but I will always associate them with my Ma. If you’re in a pinch before a party, you can always turn to these; they are (almost) fool proof.
Prep time: 6 minutes to preheat the oven
Cook time: 2 1/2 minutes
Ingredients:
- circular or checkerboard hard pretzels
- Hershey’s kisses
- M&Ms (I suppose you could also use Reese’s Pieces)
Method:
Preheat the oven to 275 Fahrenheit. Spread the pretzels in a single even layer across a baking tray. Place a Hershey’s Kiss in each circle or on top of each checkerboard. Put in the oven for 2 1/2 minutes- make sure to keep an eye on them. You want the chocolate to become soft, not melt completely. Pull the tray out and immediately lightly press an M&M in the middle of the softened Kiss. Place the fridge or freezer for 10 minutes to allow the chocolate to harden, then serve.
Yields as many as you want to make ?
